Willingly Poisoned
By Greg Batt

You're in your room
but no one's home.
Lights on in the house
but you are surrounded in dusk.

I reach for  the knob,
but door is open.
The lock offers little protection
when the beast is already in the cell.

Darkness shines on my face
the lack of luster is blinding,
deeper I fall in your confiding.
Stories you tell become events in my life,
part of my ever going strife.
People tell me I must heal
but you keep slitting my wounds with your own.
Spoon-feeding me pain;
Poison.
Killing
one you say you care about.
One you say is close to you.
one you say you'd safeguard with your all,
But still you poison me,
and I urge you to continue,
the pain makes me feel alive.
Reminds me how far I fell in this void
the bonds I destroyed
and how you kept me from succumbing;
The poison it is numbing
hurting all the same.
Tears don't end a drought
neither does your blood dripping
nor does my wailing end the storm;
it just adds to it.

It exists in all
The void that breaks down memories of happiness,
turns them to stubborn clouds,
refusing to rain.
turns words to echoes in the wind,
inaudible sounds
expressions in the night.
There too in us all
is that voice that rings clear,
the cup that never empties.
Some say "God"
others say "friend" or "hero"
names are inconsequential,
as they may change through the tragedies
but the voice and message remains the same.

"Poison me willingly,
I am here for you.
Trade hurt away, in exchange for hope
untie the noose, pull yourself up with the same rope.
Place you tears with mine
the hurt we'll confine;
this is not the beginning, but it is an end.
As recent stranger
becomes existing friend.
I haven't written anything in a while, but i sat down tonight and wrote this. The poem covers a lot of things, a lot of emotions I coundn't get through my pen in the last month.

I have no words -adequate anyway- to convey how this poem hit me. To be perfectly honest, the cover caught my attention more than the title, and the words flow to fill the beautiful emptiness captured in the photograph. The emotion spilled on this page are beautiful and poignant...but to say much more would destroy with words what you so amazingly wrought. :+fav:
