The Inevitable

The air was cold that night,
April 15, 1912.
The Atlantic roared for mortality,
and us being mere mortals were to feed its rage.
Us finally had a true meaning,
as neither the rich or the poor
could find enough life in boats .

There I stood,
dressed in fine fabrics and leathers,
adorned with gold and rare stones.
My hand clutching the cold metal railing of the wounded titan.
The band played lively waltz,
each  note was utterly clear;
composed in defiance of the primal fear echoing in the distance.
I nonetheless was a true example of my class,
standing tall, a look of disgust on my face
as I witnessed kinsmen relinquish all nobility
for the possibility of a undignified life.
Maintaining my honor,
when so many had lost it
filled me with a sense of superiority .

Moments passed,
as people left the wreck that humanity had boosted of creating.
Some left in boats,
more on there own accord.
All the while I stood watching
growing more disgusted with them.

The titan lunged forward,
I looked down regaining my balance
and for the first time I saw the water on the deck.
I heard the choir of screams,
and I realized that I would soon be among them.
My honorable path had seemed more gratifying when it was by choice,
now with all choices leading to the same destiny,
it seemed a cruel fate.
Realizing the futility of these thoughts,
I looked back towards the panic stricken crowds
and reminded myself I wasn’t one of them.
With a superior grin
I fell into the inevitable.
A very metaphorical poem. The message in this poem is feel is very relevant, and the stage I chose to display it on, seems to be a good fit.

I'd like to know what you think the message of the poem is, and what you thought about it in general.
